About
My Story

My journey with writing began a few years ago, I wasn't the brightest or luckiest when it came to the subject of English but since then, I have found myself to be a person whose personality and overall identity leans onto the passion for English and love for writing. Hi, I'm Priyanka and this is my story. There was once a time in my life where English used to terrify me, with the constant demotivation and lethargy, I was convinced that English was one of the subjects that I could never do but, as the saying goes, behind your greatest fears lies your greatest achievement...

Throughout the course of these past few months, I have come to realize that there is nothing that a person with dedication and persistence cannot achieve. I used to think that English was the hardest subject in my formative years of writing and today I find myself to have completed an entire book of 6 different short stories! However tedious times are, even during a global pandemic, one must always remember that the key is to put your mind to it and remain consistent in whatever one chooses, and it can be done. Make your possibilities a reality.

ABOUT THE BOOK

'Blemish' is a collection of short stories that discusses the struggle of individuals who face discrimination based on their size, color, gender, class, and more on a daily basis. I strongly believe that through this book, one must be able to recognize the urgency of these social norms and act upon decrepit social constructs and stigmas that prevent any forms of change in society.

'Blemish' consists of 6 such short stories that talk about topics ranging from; Body shaming and Caste discrimination in India to unacceptance in the LGBTQ+ and Intellectual discrimination and more. Even though most of these topics have been previously spoken about, I believe that they require more emphasis and should be given additional recognition and importance than it is given today in order to fully understand the gravity of the situation.

My intention while writing this book was to make my readers realize that shaming and discrimination are real and happening things in multiple areas of society and that there are people suffering through a lot simply because they do not conform to the ideals. I sincerely hope that my readers understand and keep in mind this jarring reality while reading my book.

acknowledgments

These past few months have been exceptionally difficult for me and for millions of people across the globe but, none of this would have been possible without the continuous support and motivation of the people around me. There have been countless people who have touched my life during these tedious times and influenced me for the better and I sincerely thank them for that. My parents have forever remained by my side even when things seemed impossible, my teachers who have always been available for providing help and encouragement, my friends who have helped me out, and let me be a more positive and flourishing version of myself, and lastly my brother who has been nothing but a great influence and role model in my life since Day 1.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
